Flood Damage and Clean Up
Hurricane Helene brought devastating flooding to Micaville, NC. Three structures were completely swept away, and the remaining ones suffered severe damage, some beyond repair. Fortunately, this historic old building survived and can be rehabilitated.

More volunteers helped remove the debris piles out front, remove tons of dirt and creek silt form the back yard and continue cleanup inside. Basic electricity was restored. Debris was removed from the crawlspace and the building was treated for mold. The building was hooked up to municipal Burnsville water. Plans were made to start repairs in the fall.

With the help of many volunteers from all over the country, we mucked out, hauled out, and cleaned up as much as we could. Once the weather turned cold, we buttoned the building up for the winter.

Flood and Initial Damage
The building sits on the corner of Ayles Creek and Little Crabtree Creek. The floodwaters rose to over 5’ inside and left behind 8” of mud.
